Job Summary
The Interpreter/ Translators II is responsible for oral and written interpretation non-English speaking patients and their families as well as healthcare providers. Acts as a cultural liaison between department staff and families, ensuring family centered care
Experience
• Required: Minimum one (1) year of experience and/or knowledge in interpretation.
• Preferred: Previous experience working in a hospital or clinical atmosphere. Previous experience in Medical interpreting. Familiar with hospital setting/operations.
Education
• Required: Passing of language proficiency examinations (written and oral). High School Diploma/ GED or equivalent.
• Preferred: Associate's degree or higher in related field.
Training
• Required: Ensures that oral messages are transmitted accurately, completely and transparently. Act as a conduit, clarifier, cultural advocate. Knowledge of ethics and role of the interpreter. Conduct a pre-session with parent and healthcare provider (when possible).
• Preferred: Formal training in interpretation and/or translation. Medical interpretation and/or translation certificate. Completion of basic medical interpreter training
Specialized Skills
• Required: Must be fluent in English and the target language. Ability to transmit the message from one language to the other accurately and completely. Knowledge of cultural, social and linguistic communication factors. Strong medical terminology knowledge. Ability to type is required. Promotes high level of professionalism and customer service. Cares with sensitivity and respect and promotes teamwork to achieve CHOC's mission and values.
• Preferred: Knowledge of procedures, general and specialty medical terms. Ability to use word processing software.

• Highly Preferred: Certrified Healthcare Interpreter (CHI-Spanish) or Certified Medical Interpreter (CMI).
